Cops nab mother, daughter for homicide

A dressmaker and her daughter accused of maltreating a sexagenarian who later died in a hospital, were arrested Sunday in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, police records show.

Apprehended by virtue of an arrest warrant for the crime of homicide at their residence in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, were Leonora Bartulin, 49, and her daughter, Cherry Ann, 21.

Supt. Harold Tuzon yesterday said Bartulin and her daughter allegedly helped each other in maltreating Evangeline Resco, 66, at the Urban Housing in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, on Jan. 1 this year.

Five days after, Resco died, while being treated in a Bacolod hospital, Tuzon, who is the San Carlos police chief, said.

Judge Margarita Bascos Sarabia who issued the arrest warrant, has recommended P40,000 bail for each of the accused, who are now in jail.

Police investigations show that the incident was triggered by personal grudges.

On the same day, policemen arrested Benjie Segara, a suspect in the stealing of a Honda 70cc motorcycle owned by Malon Maglayon that was parked in Brgy. 1 poblacion, San Carlos City.

The companion of Segara, identified only as Tabanaw, managed to elude arrest, Tuzon said.

Segara and Tabanaw are suspected of having been involved in the series of motorcycle thefts in San Carlos City, police investigations also showed.
