Policemen arrested Sunday four armed gang members in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, for illegal possession of bladed weapons and firearms, and for violation of the Comelec firearms ban.
Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, yesterday said the arrest of Dinos Mayagma and Carlo Zapanta, both members of the CRIPS gang, yielded two .38 caliber revolvers with ammunition.
Tuzon said Mayagma and Zapanta were also tagged by witnesses as suspects in the recent shooting of Felix Calago, a member of the Black Gangstah gang, who was hit in the left hand.
Police records show that Zapanta recently pleaded guilty of illegal possession of firearms charges, and applied for probation. He was again arrested Sunday for a similar offense.
A day before the arrest of Zapanta and Mayagma, two members of the CRIPS gang identified as Martino Carcallas and Gerson Delima, were also arrested for possessing two bladed weapons during a commotion in Brgy. 5, in San Carlos, police records also showed.
Tuzon said the arrest of the four armed gang members was a result of their intelligence monitoring to prevent gang war among the two groups, which could lead to the loss of limbs and lives, if not properly addressed.
The recovery of two more handguns brought to 29 the number of firearms taken from members of rival groups since last year, he added.
Tuzon called on parents of members of the two groups to closely monitor the activities of their children.
