Drug suspect Gilbert Reponte, his girlfriend Jessiely Palabrica, and the 32 sachets of suspected shabu recovered by policemen during their arrest at a checkpoint in San Carlos City.*
An alleged supplier and distributor of shabu and his girlfriend were intercepted and arrested yesterday at a police checkpoint in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The arrest of Gilbert Reponte, alias JokJok Caballes, and Jessiely Palabrica, yielded 32 sachets of suspected shabu weighing about 10 grams, with an estimated market value of P80,000, Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, said.
Police investigations show that Reporte, a resident of Lahug in Cebu City, had been under surveillance by anti-narcotics operatives, and was monitored to have been supplying and selling drugs in San Carlos City and neighboring towns.
Tuzon said Reponte and Palabrica were on board a motorcycle and arrived at the port of San Carlos City from Toledo City, Cebu, when they were intercepted by a combined team of policemen and operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
He added that the prohibited drugs taken from the suspects may have been earmarked for distribution during the Holy Week.
Police records also showed that 30 grams of shabu and a kilo of dried marijuana leaves were also seized by San Carlos policemen from drug couriers last year at the city port.
Tuzon announced that they are still offering cash rewards to anybody who can provide them information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the proliferation of illegal drugs in San Carlos City.
The successful campaign against drug peddlers and suppliers in San Carlos City has been attributed to the close coordination between Negros and Cebu-based police units.
Tuzon said the two suspects will undergo drug testing, while the shabu taken from them will be examined by the PNP Crime Laboratory for confirmatory tests, pending the filing of drug-related charges against them in court.
Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, yesterday commended the San Carlos police led by Tuzon for a job well done in the campaign against prohibited drugs.
